It was quite nice to see a post from The Elegant Variation reprinted in the May issue of Harper’s magazine. With a clever title — Textually Transmissible — the piece, translated from the French by Dorna Khazeni, is hilarious, especially if you’re familiar with Michel Houellebecq’s sexually infused novels or, Houellebecq aside, know the literary theory purchase meds no prescription in canada world. I laughed when I read it first at The Elegant Variation, and just as hard this time around. By the way, I always find it worthwhile to catch a glimpse of excellent editors at work, and if you get a chance, compare the Harper’s version to the TEV version to see the changes made.

Sorry to be lame and in no way am I trying to be a d*#k when I say that I don’t get it. I probably don’t have strong enough a background in lit crit. The thing I always remember about the elegant variations is the feud that the writer of the blog, Mark Sarvas I assume, had with Steven (sp?) Almond a few years back and, the irony that after Almond accused him of not being a witer, Sravas had a novel published.
