Short Roundup

Nathaniel Rich, the editor of “The Paris Review” and recent author of “The Mayor’s Tongue,” has a new short story over at Five Chapters called “Trainchasers.”

More Nathaniel Rich at the LA Times, as part of a trio of recent authors who have written books where characters are defiantly proud of print journals.

It’s been widely reported elsewhere, but since I’ve been surfing through a large number of literary journal websites lately, I feel compelled to note that yes, Granta has a nice new site.

“Literary” tattoos, with the “literary” interpreted in a very broad sense. Includes Chuck Palahniuk references, Catcher in the Rye and Winnie the Pooh. (I said broad, didn’t I?) (Via Kenyon Review)

If book sales can do this well despite the economy slouching toward recession . . . (But of course, I’d love to see the sales statistics broken down into categories – how many were short story collections, how many were cookbooks?).
