Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to everyone. BookFox will be taking a break for a few weeks.
Looking back over this year in reading, I discovered I read about 60 books — half short story collections and half novels, with a couple of nonfiction books thrown in. This is right about average for my reading compared to the last few years.
I always think I'll end up reading more, but the internet distracts me. Still, sixty books plus the seven magazines I read regularly, plus all my internet reading, plus grading, plus the books I don't end up finishing — that's a pretty a large amount of prose that my eyes digest.

Every New Year's my wife and I create strategies and goals for the next years, and though medications no prescription needed I'm tempted to increase the number of books I read, I think I'll keep it the same — 60. Because recently, even though I'm a speed reader and can blaze through a decently sized novel in a few hours, I've been training myself to read much, much slower. I like reading slowly. I learn more. I admire the ground-level work that the author performed, rather than focusing more on the global perspective of plot and character.
In the next year, I also look forward (with trepidation) to all the revolutionary changes coming over the industry. Still, I'm curious to see how it all washes up. This is a Gutenberg-sized revolution, and here we're at the cusp of it.
