LA Times Festival of Books Pictures

The Famous Graffiti Wall of What People are READING:

Everyone was disoriented because of the location change to USC:

Jonathan Lethem is absolutely brilliant. Best session of the weekend. And Carolyn Kellogg did an excellent job interviewing.

After the “Future of the Book” panel, there was a madcap rush to the stage to accost and interrogate the panelists. Definitely the most mobbish event of the weekend.

L. Ron Hubbard hired cowboys for promo. The message: He will lasso you and force you to read his books!

A tribute to the shift from UCLA to USC. Write on, Fight on.

  1. Is Hubbard still alive?
Actually, can i get sued for even asking that?
Good to see LA hasn’t forgotten books. The festivals we get in HK are shit.

  2. No, he’s not alive, but they keep publishing new books with his name as the author. Not the type of estate managing I would prefer.
    >”Can i get sued for even asking that?”
    Of course.

  3. He’s from the school of Bolano then. They say Roberto wrote a load of books before he died, but did they give a number? Seems to be two coming out every few months…
And brace yourself for the tidal wave of Salinger that’s gonna be coming our way in the next couple of years…which could be interesting as he was writing for himself, without compromise, apparently…
[I’m just guessing about the Salinger books…maybe he blocked it before he died?]

  4. I think a few years ago I heard they were releasing Bolano’s final book, but then they published about 20 more. Can’t believe the productivity of that man.
I haven’t heard a peep from the Salinger estate. You may be right about the future tidal wave, though.
